An analysis of the state of the media industry from the perspective of participants at Media Party Buenos Aires 2023.

The first Manifesto in the history of Media Party aims to be a guide for the media industry on the most relevant conversations regarding innovation. More than 85 professionals have already responded about which crucial topics to work on based on what was learned at the event. Media Party is making a statement! The survey is still open here.

Media Party 2023 is a celebration of the infinite possibilities that arise when journalism and technology come together to innovate. We believe that a healthy media ecosystem improves the quality of information and, therefore, how societies make decisions and aspire to improve their democracies.

We explore artificial intelligence tools with critical thinking and enthusiasm, sharing insights on responsible and ethical use as creative and strategic co-pilots, placing journalism at the center. 50% of survey respondents considered this to be the most valuable and stimulating aspect of the conference.

Together, we decipher what’s coming next. Emerging technologies like AI and Virtual Reality lead the topics that 66.7% of survey respondents believe should be addressed in future media innovation conferences. Economic sustainability of the media is of interest to 46.7%. Combating misinformation is highlighted by 44.4%, prioritizing ethical journalism is essential for 44.3%, and building communities and engaging with the audience garners 41.1% interest.

We are concerned about the proliferation of “fake news” and misinformation eroding public trust. We are also concerned about media concentration and the excessive influence of official advertising. The challenge of dependence on algorithms and big tech companies in news distribution is not insignificant, as these structures can favor certain content over others.

We insist on finding new forms of sustainability and financial resilience because to innovate, we must first survive and thrive. We seek models that allow for agile adaptation of newsrooms and improving working conditions for journalists, mitigating burnout and talent drain.

We multiply skills and capabilities: Through various workshops and sessions, from automated data collection to designing the communication careers of the future, we underscore the importance of lifelong learning: 98.6% are ready to implement what they have learned in their media or work.

We compete and share at the same time, generating ideas for open standards. More than 150 people participated in 10 projects in this edition of the hackathon, and three of them received USD $ 5000 in prizes to develop projects aimed at using artificial intelligence to provide better information.

We network with purpose. 61.5% of our attendees have initiated collaborative projects or found potential collaborators as a direct result of their participation in Media Party. 50.6% of participants claim to have received job offers, promotions, or other professional opportunities as a result of their participation.

We generate real professional impact. For 86.3%, Media Party 2023 has left a profound mark on their careers, offering new perspectives, opportunities, and visions in the world of media and journalism.

We collaboratively design the agenda for future conferences. There are already more than 40 applications for the Media Party Advisory Network that will define a governance model, identify funding opportunities, explore new locations, and set the innovation agenda for future media conferences.

We are a committed community. The fact that 97.7% of survey respondents are willing to publicly support the impact report with their name is a testament to the trust and commitment of our community to build a more innovative and resilient media industry.

Because Media Party is more than an event: it is the stage for building trust among colleagues and co-creating the future of media with informed decisions.

We continue to learn, share, and innovate with passion.
